My Story
Dr. Ryan Staerkel is the founder of Staerkel Veterinary Clinic and has been serving the Enid and surrounding communities since 2000. A native of Garfield County, Oklahoma, Ryan grew up as a fourth-generation farmer and rancher, surrounded by agriculture, livestock, and the Western way of life. His early experiences working cattle, participating in FFA, competing in rodeo and roping events, and spending time on the ranch helped him discover his passion for animals at a young age.
As a young cowboy, Ryan especially enjoyed working with and treating cattle on the ranch. Those experiences continued through his high school and college years and ultimately sparked his desire to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. He attended Oklahoma State University, earning his bachelor's degree in Animal Science in 1996 before continuing on to the Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine, where he earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2000. During his time at OSU, Ryan was also a member of the Oklahoma State University Meat Judging Team, continuing his involvement in the agriculture and livestock industries that had shaped his childhood.
Immediately after graduating from veterinary school in 2000, Ryan founded Staerkel Veterinary Clinic with a simple goal: to provide quality veterinary care while serving as many clients and animals as possible. The original clinic was located in the West Willow area of Enid's Heritage Hills shopping center and consisted of a small building with just one exam room. In those early days, the practice was truly a family operation, with Ryan, his wife, Cicily, and Cicily's brother, Brandon, working together to get the clinic off the ground. Those early years laid the foundation for the family-oriented practice Staerkel Veterinary Clinic would become.
Over the years, Staerkel Veterinary Clinic has grown tremendously. What began as a one-doctor, one-exam-room practice has evolved into a large veterinary hospital with four exam rooms and a team of 13 employees. While Ryan's career began with a strong focus on large-animal and cattle medicine, the practice gradually expanded as more families sought quality care for their small-animal companions. Today, Ryan primarily treats small animals and has developed extensive experience caring for dogs and cats, while his roots in agriculture and large-animal medicine remain an important part of who he is as a veterinarian.
Ryan is incredibly proud of what Staerkel Veterinary Clinic has become and is especially grateful for the many people who have helped build the practice along the way. Above all, he credits his wife, Cicily, for her support throughout the journey. After 30 years of marriage, Ryan and Cicily continue to enjoy life together with their three children, Dylan, Will, and Lala, their daughter-in-law, Savannah, and their first grandchild, Eloise.
Family remains at the center of Ryan's life. When he's not at the clinic, he enjoys spending time with his family on the ranch, working cattle, farming, traveling, golfing, and sharing a good meal together. Whether he's caring for a patient at the clinic, working cattle on the ranch, or spending time with his family, Ryan's love for animals, agriculture, and the people around him continues to shape the life and practice he has built.
